Meredith Joeroeja is a 28-year-old multidisciplinary artist known for her work in fashion and visual storytelling. She draws inspiration from nature, literature, and art. Her creations, deeply rooted in the Surinamese Indigenous and Maroon heritage, reflect the intersection of history, identity, and culture, offering a powerful perspective on both personal and cultural narratives. Growing up in a creative household, with a mother who was a seamstress and a sister who painted, Meredith was encouraged from a young age to explore various artistic disciplines. Her journey into fashion began at 18, and by 19, she had achieved significant wins in competitions. In 2019, she launched her own label, MerryMarian, and was named Young Designer of the Year at Black Fashion Week. In 2024, she also won the Best Costumes award for the musical Bono, showcasing her talent for weaving fashion and storytelling together. Meredith’s career in visual storytelling began in 2022, leading to collaborations with international brands like Vogue and Patta. Remarkably, she manages these collaborations from her home base in Suriname, where she places her connection to her roots and the rich culture of her country at the forefront. Her work continues to push boundaries in both fashion and visual art.
