Born in 1953, Dorette attended a course in ceramics at the school of the Roman Catholic Board in Suriname at Ons Erf, taught by the ceramists: Ted Heymans and William Lie A Njoek. In 2002 she educated herself in painting in oil and acrylics on board or canvas, instructed and guided by several friends and artists. Since 1989 she has had the opportunity to exhibit her work at Kunstbeurs Ons Erf where she participated in a group exhibition for ceramics, the Nationale Kunstbeurs, UNESCO, International Day of Women, Carifest, and many more. She taught herself to makes various creations of her style of art, with everything she could lay her hand on such as canvas, board and ceramics, in abstract expressionistic style.
